CNN – On Monday night, “Dancing with the Stars” pro Cheryl Burke shared a message to fellow “DWTS” alumnus Cody Rigsby, who opened up this season about the medical diagnosis he received last month. Rigsby ended up falling in the finale and finishing second.
“I know it’s been a tough week for Cody and we send him the best wishes and prayers,” Burke wrote on Instagram. “This world is truly a miraculous place we live in.”
Burke’s message comes after Rigsby thanked Burke and his partner, Witney Carson, for their support following his diagnosis of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.
WPD syndrome is a type of cardiomyopathy, which causes damage to the heart muscle. While all heart conditions impact the function of the heart, some of the most common are congenital heart conditions and heart problems following an extended smoking habit, alcohol use or altitude sickness. It has no cure, but symptoms include shortness of breath and fatigue. Rigsby said doctors told him his “heart’s doing really well.”
Rigsby and Carson performed Monday’s routine despite Rigsby’s diagnosis, one of many such moments the couple shared this season in which the DWTS team received the advantage of health in pro and partner.
Burke returned to the dance floor this season for her first stint as a judge. Her message concludes, “The world loves you! Stay strong and open your eyes to all the blessings in your life.”
