BTS has come a long way since coming to fame in South Korea.
Their chart-topping music has recently spread across the globe, with a new single “DNA” landing at No. 1 on Billboard’s World Music chart. They’re also the third Korean band ever to reach the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, after Girls’ Generation and B3.
Turning up the volume, BTS met singer Chris Martin from Coldplay at the opening of Kanye West’s Yeezy pop-up store in Seoul. The Boys (BTS’ official nickname) and Coldplay posed for a photograph, which Martin shared on his Instagram Story.
“Sisters. Monsters. Real good friends,” Martin captioned the post.
In addition to Coldplay, the Weeknd, Jay-Z and Lana Del Rey are also in the making with BTS, as well as Jack White, Justin Bieber and others.
“The boy band was inspired by the template we were trying to develop for our art,” said HyunA of the group, also known as BB-8.
“Although those idols worked as public figures, our model remains mysterious and allows us to create experiences that impact the public so we can keep them engaged for years to come.”
This is a rare collaboration by BTS (and the first time a band from another culture has come to Korea).
“It is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to participate in this project,” White said. “BTS’ popularity, their faith in art and cultural, and their passionate commitment to education made them a special choice for Coldplay.”
